Confidentiality

As your counsellor I promise to keep confidential everything that is said and that happens within the counselling sessions. The only exceptions to this are:

1. If there is a serious risk of suicide, self-harm or harm to others.
2. If you tell me of a child who is at risk.
   (In both these circumstances I would make every effort to discuss matters with you first.)
3. If I am required to give information in the course of legal or police investigations.
4. In the event of your lodging a formal ethical complaint.
5. In accordance with the Professional Code of Ethics of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I have regular supervision sessions and reserve the right to discuss details of our work with my supervisor (who is also bound by confidentiality guidelines), though your full name would not be disclosed.
